What is Cannabidiol (CBD)?
CBD is among 113 phytocannabinoids found in cannabis plants. Officially discovered in 1940, CBS is estimated to comprise as much as 40% of the plants overall extracts, making it second only to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the more widely known cousin of CBD. THC is the psychoactive component of cannabis that results in the “high” feeling experienced by users. Although CBD does not share this effect because it stimulates different brain receptors than THC.

How Do I Take CBD?
CBD products are traditionally taken orally. Most are sold in the form of tinctures that are held under the tongue for a period of 60 seconds prior to swallowing. However, it can also be smoked or vaped, and topically applied creams, ointments, and oils are quickly gaining in popularity.

How is CBD Extracted From the Cannabis Plant?
There are four methods used to extract CBD:
- Carbon dioxide is used under high pressure and very low-temperature conditions to isolate the oil while maintaining its pure state.
- Ethanol solvents are also used to extract CBD from the plant.
- CBD compounds can be safely broken down into smaller using nanotechnology, which consequently increases their therapuetic effect.
- Lipid extraction absorbs CBD compounds and encapsulates them.
Do All Marijuana Strains Have CBD?
CBD is a natural chemical compound in all types of cannabis plants. However, some varieties have a higher concentration than others, so it’s helpful to have lab results on hand to determine exact percentages of CBD.
